Alba Vivai, a century of history of the Colombano family

1920s

The history of our company goes back to the early 1900s when, around the 1920s, Giovanni Battista Colombano (1882 – 1957) began to cultivate fruit trees and poplars.

At the time, Giovanni Battista Colombano was well known as a master wood carver master, an activity he practiced above all during the long, cold winters in Alba.

1950s

In the 1950s the brothers Filippo (1922 – 1983) and Michele Colombano (1933 – 2013) expanded the family business establishing Colombano Fratelli (Colombano Bros.)

The new company introduced the production of ornamental plants and opened up new trade routes with Pistoia (Tuscany) and Lake Maggiore, still leading areas of high quality production today.

Michele and Filippo in these years began to design and create gardens, an activity that soon became the flagship of the Colombano family.

01/01/1988 the current Alba Vivai nursery was established.

In this period Filippo and Michele were joined by Gianni (1953 – 1977) Filippo’s son, first and later by Franco (1967), Michele’s son.

The current Azienda Agricola Alba Vivai ss di Colombano e C. was born on 01/01/1988, which over the years has become a real landmark for green lovers of Alba.

Franco Colombano, the current owner, has been joined in recent years by his wife Donatella and his son Mattia.

In October 2019, the transfer of the operational headquarters from the historical location of Corso Piave 73 to the new address of Via Rossano snc is the first step for the new corporate course.

Alba Vivai in its new headquarters is transformed into a Garden Center by expanding the choice of products starting from a vast range of plants and flowers, top soil and high quality materials with an eye always open to innovation in Bio, with suppliers selected on the basis of the quality of the products to guarantee a complete high-level service to customers.
